Trump: US and UK will strike a great trade deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has “no doubt” Washington will strike a “great trade deal” with the U.K. following last weeks visit, which he described as “absolutely perfect.”

“We would make a great deal with the United Kingdom because they have product that we like,” Trump said in an interview with Piers Morgan for ITVs Good Morning Britain, which is set to screen Monday night. “I mean they have a lot of great product. They make phenomenal things, you know.”

“I think were going to have a great trade deal, Ive really no doubt about it,” he added, according to a preview of the interview in the Daily Mail, despite concerns Theresa Mays latest Brexit proposal wont allow Britain the freedom to strike its own trade deals.

“Were going to get it. I said [to Theresa May], Make sure you have a carve out, you have to have a carve out — where no matter what happens they have the right to make a deal with the United States.”

Trump insisted his visit to the U.K. — where he met with May and held talks with the queen at Windsor Castle — was a success, despite the presence of thousands of protesters in central London and in Scotland, where he spent the weekend at his golf resort.

“Some of them are protesting in my favor, you know that? There are many, many protests in my favor,” he said, referring to a rally of Trump supporters that took place Saturday but drew a much smaller crowd than the anti-Trump protests that took over central London and attracted around 100,000 people.

Trump also praised the queen, calling her “fantastic,” “amazing” and a “beautiful woman.” According to Trump, the two discussed Brexit and agreed it was “a very complex problem.”

Asked about his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Trump said it was “too early to say” whether they would be “friends or enemies,” but claimed they would likely “get along very well.”
