U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter on Friday that a rise in “United Kingdom crime” over the past year took place “amid spread of Radical Islamic terror.”

Trump was citing a report by the U.K. Office of National Statistics that said crime in England and Wales rose by 13 percent during the 12 months to June 2017, though U.K. Crime Minister Sarah Newton said “much” of the rise was due to better crime recording.

The report did not say that the rise was down to religiously motivated crime or terror attacks. It said there were 664 murders over the year, a 2 percent fall, out of which 35 were related to the London and Manchester terror attacks, 5 percent of the total.

Trump has taken to Twitter to comment on British affairs before. He criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan for his handling of the London Bridge attack and again after a homemade bomb was found at Parsons Green metro station last month, a move Prime Minister Theresa May called “unhelpful.”

Just out report: "United Kingdom crime rises 13% annually amid spread of Radical Islamic terror." Not good, we must keep America safe!
