Graphic images of a mysterious new Samsung smartphone have leaked online.
A photo of a pair of handsets has been published on the Chinese social network Weibo, where they were described as being the first ‘hands-on’ snaps of the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
Both gadgets appear to feature a fingerprint reader on the back, which could suggest that Samsung has been unable or unwilling to introduce an iPhone X-style facial recognition scanner.
The South Korean tech firm moved the fingerprint reader to the back of its phones with the release of the Galaxy S8.
This allowed it to introduce a cool wrap-around infinity screen which is uninterrupted by buttons.
But some tech pickers found the placing of the scanner a bit annoying and it considerably less innovative than Apple’s Facial ID, which works by analysing iPhone X owners’ faces to unlock their devices.
Both Samsung phones have a glossy finish, with a double lens camera fitted to the larger model.
Of course, the pictures are unverified so we can’t say for sure if they are genuine images or fakes.
Samsung is expected to unveil the S9 and S9+ at Mobile World Congress in February, but it could also reveal some information at CES 2018 next week.
