This is Donald Trump‘s first festive season in the White House and true to form he has had a controversial Christmas.

The President found time to take credit for bringing back the term ‘Merry Christmas’ despite no-one realising it had gone out of fashion.

He said: ‘People are proud to be saying Merry Christmas again.

‘I am proud to have led the charge against the assault of our cherished and beautiful phrase. MERRY CHRISTMAS!’

Whether it was a slight on previous president Barack Obama, who he spent years denying was born in America, is not clear.

People are proud to be saying Merry Christmas again. I am proud to have led the charge against the assault of our cherished and beautiful phrase. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

However, the internet soon bombarded The Donald’s Twitter account with videos of Obama saying ‘Merry Christmas’.

And of course examples of when Trump used the American term ‘Happy Holidays’ instead of ‘Merry Christmas’.

Debra was first off the mark, she said: ‘No one, except maybe you, ever stopped saying it.’

Trump then released a clip of a speech he made where he talked about ‘the pride’ of saying Merry Christmas.

Yesterday Trump and his wife Melania spoke to children about the progress of Santa Claus as he dropped presents across the world.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command tracked Santa across the globe and the first couple took to calls from American children waiting for their presents.

When asked what he wanted for Christmas by a child, he said: ‘We’ve got prosperity – now we want peace.’

The first couple also took the traditional Presidential trip to a church where he was greeted with a mob of photographers and supporters.

Trump decided not to stay in Washington DC for Christmas but decided to relocate to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, yesterday.
