EU retaliates against Trumps metal tariffs

The European Commission today formally adopted the implementing regulation that will slam 25 percent tariffs on a list of American products worth €2.8 billion.

The tariffs, which come as a direct reaction to U.S. President Donald Trumps decision to hit the EU with tariffs on steel and aluminum, will apply from Friday, the Commission said in a press release.

Around one-third of the products on the list are agricultural, such as peanut butter and bourbon whiskey. The remainder are steel products and manufactured goods such as jeans and motor boats. The decision today was mainly a formal step, given that EU countries had already given the green light to the retaliations last week.
